Lady Buffs drop 2 to Russell

Comments from Coach Tom Williams

Game 1
Russell                  3
RCHS                   1

We played alright in game one but need to find a way to light a fire and get going when we need to.  Darsha bechard pitched well again with 6 K and 2 BB.  From the plate Brooke Melton hit well going 2 for 3 and Kora Bergstrom went 1 for 3.  Hitting is contagious and we just didn’t get it started.  We look for our top three hitters to get us going and their pitcher did a nice job keeping them in the dug out.

Game 2
Russell                            12
RCHS                            6

Erica Hadachek started on the mound for us and did a nice job.  She is improving every outing and that is all we ask from her.  Courtney kasl came in and pitched as well as she had, but Russell just kept hitting little dinks here and there that we just couldn’t get to.  I was pleased with their efforts and they just have to realize sometimes you do everything right and it just doesn’t happen the way you had dreamed about it.  From the plate Courtney Kasl and Miranda Cottenmyre hit 500 we just couldn’t string a lot of hits together.  As I said earlier hitting is contagious and Russell found that out.  Little dinks that just happen and in our case it really hurt us.  No one really got a good bat on the ball just little base hits in bunchs can get you a lot of run.

Over All

Over All we played well just didn’t get our offense together.  Our best defense to date but need to put a complete game together.  We are playing tough teams early and we understand.  We are competitive but we really need a victory or two to get us fired up.  It will come in time with hard work and a little extra effort on the field.  Both coaches believe in this young team and know that by the end of the year we are going to be a tough out for anyone.  The future is look good for this team and we are excited for them.

Next games are
April 15th against Concordia- At Concordia-  game time 4:30 pm
April 20th against Chapman- at Chapman- game time 4:30 pm
April 27th against Plainville-at Plainville- game time 3:00 pm

Sly's Racin' Recap

........from racing action on Saturday, April 10th........

A few local drivers made the trek west to the Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton, Ks. Concordia's Brandon Blochlinger led the first eight laps of the IMCA Mod feature, but admittedly let the presence of one David Murray, Jr lead him to overdrive his #9 into the first turn on lap nine. Blochlinger's modified made contact with the guardrail in turn two, causing a flat & bringing out the caution. Murray, who changed a motor after his heat race, came from the back of the 13-car feature to add to his IMCA all-time wins total. Joe Cleveland finished second, Rockin' Ronnie Wallace third, Corey Lagroon fourth, & Blochlinger rebounded for fifth. Brett Jackson of Concordia, was also in the field.

In the IMCA Sport Mod main, Deshler's Wade Wagenblast ran second to Brian Conness. Placing third and fourth were Beloit's Kaid Calhoon & Tyler Watts.

Belleville's Michael Lauber brought his hobby stock to Norton, but did not finish crack the top five.

.......@ Minneapolis Raceway, the playday was held with 100 cars taking turns on the re-configured oval. The Johnston Racing Team of Concordia, comprised of Kurt & Jarrod Johnston's modifieds, & the hobby stock of Brandon Belvill, were out to test. Justin Murdock, the operator of the Cloud County Transfer Station, makes his return to the sport in the #24M hobby stock. Other modifieds included Geoff Jermark and Larry Sutton of Beloit. In the sport mod division, locals participating included Tyler Sutton, Eric Ingram, Jason Nelssen, Jake Krone, & Brian Fink from Beloit, plus Matt Miller & Kurt Kalivoda of Concordia, Jim Stolzenburg of Clyde, &  Belleville's Tyler Frye. Terry Franz, Scott Condray, & Dustin Newlin, all of Concordia, joined Morganville's Wylie Pumarlo in the stock car ranks. Lucas Louder of Concordia debuted a new #58L hobby Stock, Matthew Jermark of Beloit put the first laps on his new mosquito, and Travis & Trevor Smith's matching mod-lites were also in attendance.

The opening night of racing at Minneapolis Raceway is this Saturday, April 17th, with action beginning @ 7 pm. See Minneapolis Raceway.com for more information.

Fresh off of their own test & tunes, Beatrice Speedway & the Junction Motor Speedway are set to fire off their weekly schedules this weekend, too. Sly's Racin' Recap

Beatrice Speedway's Spring Nationals.......
originally scheduled as a fri.-sat. show, but shortened to Fri., Mar. 26th, due to the weather.....In the IMCA Modified portion, first & second place drivers Johnny Saathoff & Jay Noteboom got together in turn three on the last lap, collected a few more drivers, sent others diving for a clear lane........and allowed Ricky Alvarado of colorado to pick up the win. Belleville's Darrick Klima benefitted from the scramble, notching a fourth place finish, the Jet recovered for eighth, & Concordia's Brandon Blochlinger rounded out the top ten.

Belleville's Tyler Frye lead the IMCA Sport Mod feature under the white flag, but the defending national champion, Jesse Sobbing, got around Frye in the last corner to pick up the win. Tyler settled for the runner-up spot, and Washington's Greg Metz ran fifth in the feature.

Junction Motor Speedway's USMTS Nebraska Spring Thaw......
again rain-shortened, 19-yr old Ryan Gustin outran the field to pick up the winner's check, besting Jon Tesch & Tommy Myer.  Those three were part of the pack that avoided a 12-car pile-up on the second lap of the race.  The undercard victory went to the stock car of Cory Yeigh.

On April 2nd @.......

McCook Speedway, Tyler Frye did pick up the win, dominating the IMCA sport mod feature. Bryan Herrick was the runner-up. Also noteable was the fact that David Murray, Jr did NOT win the IMCA modified feature. He did register a second place finish, behind Colorado's Will Brack.

Jordan Grabouski claimed the checkers @ Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Ne on Friday nite in Lincoln, Nebr. Grabo outran the 2009 IMCA National champion, Dylan Smith, in the feature.  Craig Preble, who has run with the NCRA here on the HighBanks, won the late model feature, while Les Siebert placed sixth.

Sat., April 3rd @........

Eagle Raceway hosted the season opener for the Lucas Oil / MLRA Late Model series. Omaha's John Anderson put his name in the books as 2010's first winner on the tour, but Coffeyville's Al Purkey dogged him the majority of the race. Terry Phillips was third, while Kyle Berck finished eighth.  Jay Noteboom took the modified victory , and Jason Wilkinson snared the hobby stock checkers.

Looking ahead, JMS will host their opening night of point racing on April 17th......
Minneapolis Raceway is having their playday this Saturday, April 10th, with opening night a week later......
Beatrice Speedway has a playday this Saturday, with their opener on Fri, April 16th

Meanwhile back in Manhattan...

We've got more updates from former Pike Valley Panther Ian Peters on the KSU football team, as the team began spring practice March 31...

Spring practice officially began for us on Wednesday. We (coaches and players alike) have very high expectations heading into our Spring efforts. Going into our first practice, coach Snyder reminded us of how crucial our next few weeks of preperation were for the upcoming season. Setting the bar high through winter workouts and Spring ball really does set the stage for the upcoming year. In Snyder's view, which there really is no other view, our first practice was dramatically improved this year compared to a year ago. We have had three practices so far, each one highlighting something positive about our teams character. These areas include toughness, finishing, play execution, and great effort. We are off to a good start so far, and need to keep improving and building off each successful practice. Thank you for your time and God Bless.
