It's go time...

Final week of the regular season is today, with some teams still having a shot at the post season, and others seeing the year come to an end. Here's what area teams will be facing tonight...

Republic County (1-7) vs Ell Saline (4-4) The Cardinals have locked up a playoff berth witha 32-0 win over Bennington last week. Michael Wimer leads the offense, rushing for 1,189 yards and 8 TD this season. The Buffs are paced by QB Gary Roberts 1,215 yards passing and 9 TDs. A win to end the season, especially the way things went against top teams, would be huge for the Buffs to take some momentum into the winter sports season.

Clifton/Clyde (8-0) at Jewell (1-7) Not many teams in the state can boast they have 3 runners with over 700 yards rushing and 11 TDs. Michael Lambert (906 yds- 22 td), Dustin Cyr (835- 11) and Christian Jackson (744- 14) form the best 1-2-3 combo in 8 man football. Jewell's lone win was against 0-8 Southern Cloud.

Game of the week: Pike Valley (5-3) at St. John's Beloit- Tipton (6-1) By now, they know what's on the line: PTL Championship, trip to the playoffs. StJB-T's only loss is to Clifton Clyde, 0-50, while Pike Valley gave C/C their first full game last week, losing 20-46. Pike valley must win by 9 or more to win the tiebreaker with the BluJays. Anything else and STB-T will move on. Panther coach Don Melby and senior leaders Ian Peters and Konner Bergstrom will have the team ready, and it should be a great one.

Good luck to all our area teams!!!

Just a note about the Buffs. Very proud of the ones who finished. Very disappointed in the ones who quit. Haven't you ever been told finish what you start. If you don't like it don't go out next year. Proud of the Buffs!

Buff PROUD. Let us look back at the year.

One player have have quit before the Season got started, he had other plans, I have no idea if that was the real reason or not, but it could have been a good reason.
On Senior left school after the first game.
One Sophomore had a season ending injury.
One Senior had another season injury before the Beloit game.
I am trying to figure out if a starter quit on not?

First off, I don't like that you can post without putting your name on here. I leave it like that so no one has to sign up to do so (it's free, by the way) but anyways.

YEah, the guys displayed some heart the the last few games. Everyone should be proud of those who stuck it out. It's been very tough these last few years. Tough enough that people, parents of players actually, are asking me why I don't broadcast more Pike Valley games. I tell them I made the commitment at the start of the year and that I'd see them through. After SES, I looked like I made great call. After Beloit, I didn't have much to say.

Is it the coaches? No, Brad Couture in his first game as head man wins over Pat Haxton, 2 years removed from a state tile. Is it the schemes on defense or the plays called on Offense? No, Couture's D worked very well at 6A Junction City, and Alan Sheets offense has shown to get guys open in the passing game, and the running game moved the ball at times. Are the parents, cheerleaders, and fans not gving enough support? No, and try convincing DVS otherwise...

No, it comes back to the players wanting to work. Notice I didn't say play. My fat, out-of-shape butt woud love to strap on the pads one more time, and mix it up. There's nothing like the excitment of Friday night under tha lights. But until the players commit themselves to working in the weightroom, running, doing off season work together, then we can expect nothing more that what we saw this year.

I will also say this: the talent is there. the Skill positions will get almost everyone back for next year. Some healthy players will make a difference. But you still have to work. Line play will determin exactly how well the team does next year.

I'll end my rant by saying it's on the players. If you want to do no more than what you did this year, continue to do what you're doing. If you want success on the field, it'sgoing to take a lot more work than what has been shown this year.

if it is the players, then what the _ _ _ _ with Nebraksa?

Looks the same to me.

We have just as good as players as any else, don't we?

We did not do simple things, use of hands, take a O-man on head up to tackle, everything was to the side. You seen the same games as everone else.

You just had to bring my Huskers into this, didn't you? ;) jk The difference between HS and College is huge. The difference between RCHS and NU is even bigger. Do you really want the rant about the NU COACHES? Because that's what the Huskers problem is. Give Bob Stoops the NU players, and they could legitamatly be 8-1 right now, and I would have given them a very good chance against USC. It's not the Nebraska players, it's the coaches.

One more thing: LEADERSHIP. It was lacking at times this year.

BUT IT IS OUR PLAYERS, BUT NOT NEBRAKSAS?

LEADERSHIP COMES FROM WHO?

Woo hoo! Comments! 2 things. 1_ Thanks for posting. 2)STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS!!! It's annoying. Thanks.

And whoa, we're making a big jump again here. College to high school isn't something to overlook. But this blog isn't about NU, it's about RCHS.

Ever heard th expression, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink?" Put into a team context... "You can lead a herd to water, but eventually onehorse has to be the first to take a drink." I will say again, it's on the players to step up and be willing to work. Football is not a sport that you can show up the second week of August and expect to be successful in September and October.

The 2008 football season began today... Not in January, not in March, but now. I made the correlation with my JH kids all fall. There is a reason Smith Center is so good year after year. They live for football, and it starts young. I love what Brad is doing, and that is trying to create a "program" with the football team. Talented kids will come and go, but a good program will generally be successful.

YES, they say, HIGH SCHOOL is about 75% coaching and the rest is the players.

Washington is the much better than RCHS...?

Valley Heights, is that much better than the players here?

I do not think so!

Couture may have us going the right way. I hope so.

Go Buffs, that is all that really needs to be said.

Weights, gain or lifting, passing, punting, kicking. all needs to be worked on before next year, which has I have read, started this last monday.
