Buffs in the Sub State Championship

The Republic County Buffaloes pulled off a dramatic comeback Thursday night to defeat TMP 41-37. The Buffs will now face NCAA league foe Sacred Heart Saturday night for the right to go to Hutchinson for the State Tournament next week!

The Knights are the only team to beat the Buffs this year, winning the first match up 73-67 in overtime in Salina. But when we called for a RED OUT in Belleville, the hometown faithful came out in full force to watch the Buff defense shut down the Knights, winning 64-38.

So, let's do it again! Another RED OUT is set to hit Norton Saturday night at 7:30 pm, after the girls game. WEAR YOUR RED, and help the team by being AS LOUD AS YOU CAN (with good sportmanship). We'd also like for people who might need a ride, or have room to spare to call around and make sure EVERYONE who is able, can make it to the game. This should be a great atmosphere for high school basketball!

GO BUFFS!!!!

Wow...

Just wow. What a game the Buffalo guys played last night in Norton. Down 10 to the defending 4A State Champs TMP at half, RC mounted a charge in the third quarter, and into the 4th. A four and a half minute stall (literally, Colton Grove stood in place with the ball for most of that time) before Coach Alan Sheets called timeout with 18.8 seconds left. Gary Roberts put up a driving shot that somehow found the bottom of the net. TMP threw the inbounds pass out of bounds, and Gary clinched the game with both ends of a one-and-one for the final count of 41-37.

The Buffs will face the very familiar Sacred Heart Knights Saturday night in Norton (couldn't we meet in Concordia or something?) You might remember, it's been a split so far this year, with each team winning on their home court. Should be a great game.

For those of you heading out Saturday (and that should be EVERYONE WHO READS THIS), don't forget your WEAR YOUR RED! We have had a tremendous turnout for all of the red out games, and this is just the latest one. GO BUFFS!!!

RED OUT to hit Norton!

The Republic County boys are 2 wins away from a third straight State Tournament bid, and we need to do our part as students, teachers, parents and fans (and radio guys)! We're calling for RED OUTS for ANY REMAINING GAMES THIS YEAR! When I talked to Coach Sheets after the SES road game, he mentioned how neat it was for the team to come out of the locker room, and the ENTIRE RC cheering section was in red. The team absolutely fed off of that energy, and rolled to a 30 point win.

Now we're in the post season, where one slip up can end your season. This team has acomplished so much, let's send them even further. WEAR YOUR RED Thursday night to Norton, when the guys play TMP at 6pm. Let's finish this year right... at HUTCH!! GO BUFFS!!

Congrats to Ronnie Dyke

I wanted to congratulate Ronnie and his spotlight perfomance Tuesday night!!! I am so proud of him. This young man doesn't receive enough credit because "defense" is not labeled on a point system like scoring a basket. He did a spectacular job guarding the center for SES on top of being “high point man” that night.
Best of luck to the boys' and girls' teams next week!!!

Aaron Weatherhead at State Wrestling

By now you've heard or read that Aaron lost in the State Championship match, 4-12. While not a championship, it was a great way to wrap up one of the best careers a Buff wrestler has ever seen! Congrats to Aaron!
***************************************************

Aaron has defeated Tommy Knapp 13-2! Aaron will be wrestling for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday night at 6:30pm against Phillipsburg's Dustin Zahorsky.
***************************************************

Aaron defeated Zac Bainter in the 2nd round 2-1! Aaron has locked up a medal, the question is, which one? He wrestles Tommy Knapp of Lincoln this evening!

***************************************************
Aaron defeated Kyle White of Horton in the 1st round 13-0. Aaron will take on Zach Bainter of Norton at 1:30 pm in the 2nd round. It was Bayard who gave Weatherhead his first loss at State last year.

Senior night

Celia Porter and the Republic County girls and boys teams will play their final regular season home game tonight against Minneapolis. We're calling for another RED OUT, to send the seniors out with style. Girls game will begin at 6pm, with the boys to follow.

On a side note, Celia Porter is just one 3 point basket away from owning not only the single season record, but career record as well. Porter has 45 3's this year (tied with Nicki Kasl) and 71 for her career (also tied with Kasl). Just one will do the trick.

Go BUFFS!!!
