"WINDY!!!"...That would be the most used adjective to describe our meets this week at Phillipsburg on Thursday, October 6 and Saturday, October 8. We had very competitive races both days in windy, hilly conditions. It was especially hilly and windy at Phillipsburg on Thursday, where five girls ran. Courtney Freed was 6th, Peyton Baxa was 19th, Michelle Davis was 30th, and Tracy Garman was 42nd. These girls competed well. Times did not show how well they ran due to the conditions. Additionally, 8th grader Geni Stainbrook ran the 3000m race in 15:56 to win the girls JH race!

The Pike Valley Boys kept things going on Saturday by winning the Riley County Invitational on the gently rolling hills of the Leonardville Golf Course. There were 137 Boys runners. Kameron Blanding led the Panthers with a fine 4th place finish. After a nasty fall down a hill and being accidentally stepped on and kicked in the head with about 1200m to go, Caden Callaway came back to finish 5th. Cole Callaway placed 12th, Quinton Isaacson was 17th, while Dallas Looper was 21st. Logan Burt was actually 31st, while Robert Cox placed 84th. Ty Bivens was 88th and Casey Jensen finished in 121st place.

The Pike Valley Girls had great races as all four had season-best times! Peyton Baxa was 33rd in 18:56, Courtney Cox was 37th in 19:11, Michelle Davis was 49th in 20:15, and Tracy Garman was 79th in 24:49. All these girls have run multiple races in the last two weeks as we prepare for the post-season.

Geni Stainbrook placed 11th in the JH Girls 1-Mile Run in 7:19 to complete her 8th grade season.

It was a busy and productive week for Pike Valley Cross Country as we gear up for the Northern Plains League Meet/Lakeside Invitational at Downs Country Club on Thursday, October 13. Girls race begins at 4 p.m. and we encourage as many fans as possible to attend.

The Panthers will be going to the Class 1A Regional at Wheatland-Grinnell HS in Grainfield (187 miles from Scandia) on October 22. Girls race at 2 p.m. and Boys at 2:30 p.m.
