Pierson signs with 'Zona

On official signing day across the nation, Republic County High School graduate Amanda Pierson signed her name to an official Letter of Intent for a full ride scholarship to play for the Division One, University of Arizona where she will play for former University of Tennessee National Champion Niya Butts. Pierson will join the Wildcats after a memorable career at Seward County where she finished fourth all-time in career blocked shots (136) and holds 6th and 8th place on the single season blocked shots list (82 & 54). She averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds a game for the Lady Saints in 2009 and was a 2nd Team All-Jayhawk West All-Conference pick as a sophomore.

At a press conference in Liberal on April 15th Pierson commented, “It just felt right; they are graduating all of their post players so I should have a chance to go in and compete for playing time next season. The people in Liberal have given me so much support in my two years here, it has led me to the success which has made it possible for me to sign at the University of Arizona.” She also strongly considered the University of Texas-Arlington and Colorado State University before signing with Arizona. Amanda is the daughter of Rick and Melinda Pierson of Munden.
