Softball recaps with Coach Tom Williams

Minneapolis Games

Game 1

Joni Sheets was in the Circle and picking up her second win of the season.  Minneapolis jumped out to a 6 run lead before the Buffs come Thundering back into it.  Scoring 4 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th to win the ball game 7-6.  I was pleased with the Ladies for never giving up and fighting like they did.  Courtney Cox and Kayla Sly went 2 for 3 in the game from the plate sparking the offense needed.

Game 2

Kayla Sly was in the circle.  We got off to a very rocky start and that is not a good sign for us.  Minneapolis played a good game and never let us get back into the ball game.  We have got to become better overall on Defense and need to put the ball into play on offense.

Night Cap

It is always great to get a win and we played well the first game.  N the night Kayla Sly lead the team in hitting with an 800 avg and Courtney Cox was 600 for the night.  We had three hitter drive the ball deep for Doubles in Kelby Johnson, Michellle Cottenmyre and Miranda Cottenmyre.

Beloit Games

Game 1

Joni Sheets in the circle.  As a coach, sometimes I get the horse ahead of the cart and I did this when I tried to overthink the pitching- I really didn’t give Joni a chance let them put the ball in place.  Joni has came a long ways and I felt I could drop inside pitches and outside pitches in there but it wasn’t meant to be.  Beloit is very solid from the plate and well coached.  We only had two hits in the game one from each Joni Sheets and Cassidy Stenson.  Beloits pitcher kept us unbalanced all games.

Game 2

Kayla Sly was in the circle and pitched two very solid innings and then as a team we came apart.  We are at the point in the season we can not give up outs and we are still doing that by untimely errors.  Courtney Cox lead the team in hitting with 2 hits in the game and Joni Sheets came up with the other.

Night Cap

Overall errors really hurt us and going against a top team like Beloit that is something you have to cut out.  Our hitting wasn’t where it needed to be and something we will continue to work on.  Beloit is a solid team that we will have in regionals and hope that we took away a good education for the next time we have to play.
