Sly's Racin' Recap

........from activity around the area over the April 16-17 weekend,

the only action on the track Friday occured out in western kansas @ the Rolling Plains Motor Speedway in Hays. It was a big nite for Belleville drivers, taking 2 of the 4 feature races. The IMCA Northern SportMod feature top honors went to Tyler Frye in his #55, while Darrick Klima put the Mike's Body Shop #2 in the IMCA MODIFIED victory lane.

The schedule @ the Beatrice Speedway was rearranged by mother nature, raining out the Friday nite show. They will attempt to hold the season opener this Friday, April 23rd, at the Gage County Fairgrounds in Beatrice.

The North Central Kansas racers had another good nite of results on Saturday. Concordia's Brandon Blochlinger tallied a runnerup finish in the NASCAR Modified series A-main at the Junction Motor Speedway. Brett jackson, of Concordia, finished 8th, with  Webber's Brett Behrends next in line. The action heats up again, this Saturday at McCool Junction, Ne, with a full slate of racing.

Opening nite @ the Minneapolis Raceway found a trio of area racers gracing their O'Reilly's Auto Parts Victory Lane. Kurt Johnston carried the torch for the Johnston Racing Team of Concordia, rallying from his fifth row starting spot to claim the IMCA Modified feature. Kurt used the low groove to chase down 2-time Minneapolis Raceway champ Dave Hardesty in the final laps for the win. The IMCA Stock Car class produced a first-time winner as Morganville's Wylie Pumarlo topped a dramatic A-main. Pumarlo led the majority of the race from his pole position, dropped to second right before a caution period, and then bolted back to the front when the leader bobbled in turn two on the restart. Continuing his push for the IMCA Northern SportMod National title, Tyler Frye chalked up win #3 of the young season with his feature victory. Minneapolis Raceway will continue their 2010 season this Saturday with the debut of the IMCA Hobby Stocks & Sport Compacts.
