Sly's Racin' Recap

Mother Nature washed out almost all of the racing action this past weekend, but two tracks were able to get in their programs.

On Saturday nite at the Minneapolis Raceway, lite sprinkles put a scare into the crowd just before the action started. But the green flag fell on the first heat just minutes after the advertised 7 pm start time. The IMCA Modified feature went down to the wire as two Belleville Motorsport machines excited the fans with a great battle. Wichita's Delbert "the Iceman" Smith held off chassis-maker Darrick Klima for the victory. Jarrod Johnston, returning after motor problems from the previous weekend, finished sixth in his BMS. Father, Kurt, recovered from an early race miscue to wind up seventh.

Local racers Justin Murdock & Michael Lauber were able to qualify for the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, while Brandon Belvill endured a rather rough nite of racing.

NEWS FLASH !!!  TYLER FRYE PULLS OFF IMCA NORTHERN SPORTMOD WIN !  On Saturday night, Tyler worked his way into the second spot & began to pressure Kevin Schmidt of Fairbury, Ne. The pressure got to him as Schmidt drove his car too hard into turn one, got into the marbles and off track, and the FRYEMAN drove past to claim the lead & the victory. Jim Stolzenburg & Kurt Kalivoda ran into problems in the consi, concluding their nights.

In the IMCA Sport Compact class, high schooler Matthew Jermark picked up a top ten finish in his debut @ Minneapolis Raceway.

This Saturday, May 1st, five classes will be in action beginning @ 7 pm. Modifieds, sport mods, hobby stocks, & sport compacts, plus the MINNEAPOLIS MOD-LITE's.

The Junction Motor Speedway showed their mettle by waiting out a rain delay, working in the track, & having a fantastic evening in McCool Junction. Brandon Blochlinger led the local modified racers, with his second place finish. Brett Jackson & Brett Behrends also made it into the A-main.

Six divisions are on the schedule for this Saturday nite, including the SLMR Late Models. The racing will begin @ 7 pm @ JMS.

Beatrice Speedway, having been rained out twice already, has a planned week off this Friday. Look for the dirt to fly on May 7th @ the Gage County Fairgrounds in Beatrice.

the Jayhusker Racing Association held a Sunday afternoon playday @ the Jefferson County Fairground in Fairbury, Ne. They'll have another practice day on May 8th @ the Solomon Valley Raceway, before jump-starting their season on May 15th in Clay Center, Ks.
