Blake Swihart, c, Cleveland HS (NM)

Cleveland High School baseball star Blake Swihart got a last minute call from the Boston Red Sox, one minute before the signing deadline.

The Red Sox convinced Swihart to come play professional baseball for their organization rather than attend the University of Texas.

It took a $2.5 million signing bonus to help convince him, but it worked.

"That's life changing money," said Swihart.

The Red Sox drafted the switch hitting catcher in the first round. He wanted to play for his dream school in Austin but said the money was too good to pass up.

Swihart now leaves for Fort Myers, Florida to begin his pro career.

Blake's dad Arlen was a graduate of Concordia High School, and then went on to play basketball at Cloud County Community College.
