Former Lady Buff earns Acedemic award

The Big Sky Conference announced the 2011 Spring All-Academic teams, which featured 41 student-athletes from men's and women's track and field, men's and women's tennis and women's golf.

Karen Brown of Republic, KS, earned academic recognition from the Conference for the Bobcats. As Karen enters her senior year, Coach Mike Carignan awarded her a partial athletic scholarship for her final year of competition with the Montana State track & field team. In her 2 seasons with the Bobcats Karen has qualified for the Big Sky conference meet in the javelin. In 2010 Karen finished 10th at conference and this year she posted a 13th place throw.


To be eligible, a student-athlete must have participated in at least half of the team's competitions, achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the close of the most recent academic term and completed at least one academic term at his or her current Big Sky institution.

In addition to this year’s athletic scholarship, the college of Health & Human Performance awarded Karen a student success academic scholarship.
Karen graduated from Republic County High School in 2007 where she competed in cross country, basketball, and track. She is the daughter of Mark & Loisann Brown of Republic, and the granddaughter of Glenna Brown and Iona Tuley.
