RC Softball drops 2 vs Russell

Russell Games

Game 1-  Russell wins 17-4

Kayla Sly started in the circle for the Lady Buff and pitched well.  We struggled in the second inning because of errors but we are young and it is going to happen that way sometimes.   Defensively, Michelle Cottenmyer comes to play and if you haven’t heard of her you will.  She is playing as well as anyone out there and giving it her all.  Brianna Long from the plate was 1 for 1 with a walk so 1000 percent which is perfect.  Kelby Johnson had a double to show off her power.

Game 2-  Russell wins 22-7

Joni Sheets was in the circle.  We scored 7 runs to show that we are able to generate runs we just have to be patient at the plate and drive our pitches.  Kelby once again showed her power with a double and Brianna continued having success getting on base.  She scored 2 of the 7 runs.

Night cap

Pitching was better tonight as Kayla and Joni are going to improve each night out.  They realize it will take time and they are working hard to get were we need them to be.  I was pleased with their efforts in the circle and once they become more consistent their confidence will build as well.  Defensively I can not say enough about Michelle.  She is diving all over the place coming up with big stops and her arm is a cannon.  She has thrown several people out because they just don’t expect her to bring it as hard as she can.  Danielle Roush is having to catch both games for the Lady Buffs and that is tougher than people realize.  She is doing well and will improve their as well once her legs build up in strength from having to sit like that.  She has a good arm and we will catch people off guard.  From the plate, Cassidy Stenson lead the Lady buffs with a .400 batting avg- cant ask for better than that out of a sophomore getting her first Varsity experience.  Kelby Johnson was .333 but with her 2 doubles had a slugging percentage of .667.  Brianna Long might not be the most power hitter but she finds ways to get on base and anyone who has watched Moneyball understands that importance.  She had a .600 on base percentage.  We have a lot of good things happening and once we iron out some little errors and communication items we will be ready for whomever comes our way.  It is a team effort and I am proud of the girls for understanding that and working together.
